|Change of Use, Former Benihana Parking Lot
Metro and its contractor, STS, are seeking a change of use at the former Benihana parking lot north of the current La Cienega staging yard. The change of use would allow the contractor to park personal vehicles in the lot 24 hours a day. Access will be limited to Purple Line Extension personnel and no heavy construction vehicles will be permitted to park in the lot. Sound blankets will be placed on the eastern side of the lot to reduce noise and no construction materials will be staged in the lot.
This change of use is expected to go to City Council for a decision November 19. Comments submitted to email@example.com by November 7 will be provided to councilmembers in advance. Comments received after November 7 will be included in the packet provided to council at the meeting.
Weekly Update 11/8/19
Piling installation in progress on Wilshire.
Piling operations have begun on Wilshire between Crescent and Beverly. K-rail barriers will be in place 24 hours a day, seven days a week through the completion of this work, which is expected to be July of next year. Two lanes of traffic will remain open in each direction on Wilshire during this work. From Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day, no work may occur in the public right-of-way and Wilshire will be restored to three lanes in each direction. For more details, please see Metro’s latest construction notice.
Installation of traffic signal at Clifton and Crescent intersection underway.
A four-way traffic signal is being installed at Clifton and Crescent to mitigate anticipated traffic impacts caused by the N. Cañon cul-de-sac. Installation of temporary traffic signal poles is complete. Permanent traffic signal poles will be installed in 2020 and sidewalk restoration is anticipated to start this week. Work hours will be weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm and weekends from 8 am to 6 pm when needed. This work will require some impacts to traffic lanes, sidewalks, crosswalks, and parking meters at the intersection. During construction, flaggers will be available to help people navigating the area.
Geotechnical instrumentation in progress near Wilshire/Rodeo.
Devices to monitor the effects of excavation and tunneling will be installed at multiple locations around the future Wilshire/Rodeo station. This work will be performed intermittently on weekdays from 7 am to 4 pm over the next few months and may require closures of traffic lanes and sidewalks.
Wilshire/La Cienega Station
Closures anticipated near Wilshire.
The following closures* are scheduled to take place during the upcoming week:
Please use alternative routes and continue to respect construction barriers and detours for your safety.
Concrete and material delivery underway.
For concrete placement and material deliveries such as rebar, Wilshire will be intermittently reduced to two lanes in each direction from 7 am to 4 pm, and one lane in each direction from 9 pm to 7 am. Parking and turn restrictions will also be required.
*Due to the dynamic nature of construction, all dates and times are subject to change.
