Urban Forest Management Plan

Since the inception of Beverly Hills, trees have been a defining characteristic of our neighborhoods and an asset to creating a high standard of living for our residents.  On February 8, 2022, the City Council adopted the Urban Forest Management Plan (UFMP) to better manage this community asset, and grow a healthy urban forest for years to come.  The aim of an UFMP is to promote the sustainability of trees in the City in a way that maximizes their environmental benefits, while maintaining the City’s established safety and economic goals.   This document supports a measureable planning framework that will support the City’s urban forest over the next 20-30 years.

The UFMP looks at the condition of the City’s trees, management practices, policies and ordinances, and funding and provides an assessment of whether they are functioning at an optimal level, and provides recommendations where needed for improvement.  Additionally, the City included a chapter of this plan dedicated to assessing the severe fire hazard area north of Sunset Blvd., to ensure the City’s trees are contributing to a fire safe community.
